National Letter of Intent Signing Day

Congratulations to Canyon High School student-athletes Connor Albin, Maddi Askins, Connor Borra, Carly Cross, Brett Eskelson, Lexi Gamez, Andrew Gaspar and Sotero Ureno for committing to compete at the collegiate level!

Connor Albin – Cross Country/Track & Field

Cal State University Fullerton

Connor Albin is a 4 year varsity cross country and track & field runner for Canyon High School. He will be attending California State University, Fullerton to study Criminal Justice.  Albin is a 2 year Athletic Council member. Connor’s accumulated impressive PR times while at Canyon running a 14:47 in the 3 mile, achieving a 9:31 in the 3200m, logging a 4:25 mark in the 1600m, and recording a 2:00 800m time.   He was voted MVP for Cross Country his Junior year and holds the 3 mile JV record at Canyon.   His favorite high school memory is going to CIF State as a freshman. He stated, “I would like to thank my fellow runners, family and every coach I’ve ever had and my favorite chiropractor Neha Patel for fixing my body even a day before a race to compete at my highest level.”

Maddi Askins – Softball

Howard University

Maddi Askins is a 4 year varsity softball player for Canyon High School and will be attending Howard University to major in Political Science and minor in Psychology.  Askins is a 3-year scholar athlete whose favorite high school memory is the 13-inning victory over rival Villa Park her freshman year.  Askins says she would like to thank “My mom, my family and friends. I’d like to give a special thanks to anyone who believed in me. Especially my family for constantly pushing me to become a better player. “

Connor Borra – Soccer

Cal State Dominguez Hills

Connor Borra is a 4 year Varsity soccer player at Canyon High School. Next year he will be attending California State University, Dominguez Hills to play soccer. Borra’s personal and team athletic accomplishments include  being named North Hills first team all league in 2019 and 2020, helping lead the team to back to back league championships as well as helping Canyon reach the CIF quarter finals in 2020. His favorite high school memory is winning back to back league championships, and going to the CIF quarter finals. He would like to thank “both my mom and dad for supporting me throughout my soccer career.”

Carly Cross – Soccer

Boise State University

Carly Cross is a 3 year varsity soccer player at Canyon High School who will be attending Boise State University on an athletic and academic scholarship to study business in the fall. She was voted best offensive player three years in a row at Canyon and is a 4 year scholar athlete. Her favorite high school memory is playing soccer with her older sister Maggie Cross. She would like to thank “my mom and dad, Coach Billy, Coach Scott and my club coach for everything they’ve done for me.”

Brett Eskelson – Baseball

Hendrix College

Brett Eskelson is a 2 year varsity baseball player at Canyon High School.  He will be attending Hendrix College to play baseball.  Eskelson has earned the scholar athlete award each of his 4 years at Canyon.  He was also the JV team MVP his sophomore year. His favorite high school memory is the Canyon Baseball trip to Las Vegas.  Eskelson stated, “I want to thank God, my family, coaches, and everyone who has helped me through the years.”

Lexi Gamez – Softball

Fort Hays State University

Lexi Gamez is a 4 year varsity softball player at Canyon High School.  She will be attending Fort Hays State University and majoring in Business with a minor in Communication Law. Gamez has been a part of Canyon’s League Championship Team, was named to the Crestview All League 2nd Team and was voted most inspirational by her teammates.  Gamez’s favorite high school memories have all happened on the softball field with her teammates.  She would like to thank her family for all their support.

Andrew Gaspar – Baseball

University of Dallas

Andrew Gaspar is a 4 year varsity baseball player at Canyon High School.  Gaspar will be attending the University of Dallas and majoring in Biology.  His achievements include being named the Crestview League Rookie of the Year, and earning the Scholar Athlete award.  Gaspar’s favorite high school memory is eating with the team after games.  He would like to thank “My mother and father for always going above and beyond to give me the best possible baseball experience”.

Sotero Ureno – Baseball

Midland University 

Sotero Ureno is a 3 year varsity baseball player at Canyon High School.  He will be attending Midland University and majoring in Athletic Training.  He is a recipient of the Most Improved Player award from Canyon Baseball.  Ureno’s favorite high school memory is everything involving baseball on and off the field.  He would like to thank his mom and dad for all their support.

In addition to our 8 new signees, Canyon Athletics celebrated 5 additional seniors who signed this past November to include their friends and family. Congratulations to again to Canyon High School’s:  Cameron Magee, Emily McDaniel, Sarah Paino, Giovanna Salcido and Madison Sanchez  for committing to compete at the collegiate level!
