Cameron Magee – Baseball

Cameron Magee is a 3 year varsity baseball player for Canyon. His primary position is shortstop. Magee will be attending Arizona State University on an athletic scholarship to study Business next fall. Noteable high school accolades include Ryan Lemmon Showcase Invitation participant, and 2020 Brewers All Area Code Team. Magee’s junior year was cut short by the coronavirus pandemic; however, he is entering his senior season a top talent in Southern California.  His favorite high school memory was when he got to play at Angel Stadium his sophomore year.  He stated, “I’d like to give thanks to my mom and dad for always being there when I needed them and helping me along my career. I’d like to thank them for always taking me to those early travel ball games all these years and making pretty much all of them. I’d like to thank my sister Kylee for being the best little sister and for always helping me hit in the backyard and train.”

Emily McDaniel – Volleyball

Emily McDaniel is a 4 year varsity middle blocker for the Canyon High School volleyball program. McDaniel will be attending University of California, San Diego on an Athletic Scholarship to study Biochemistry next fall. Her athletic accomplishments include the Reed Smoke Award, Team MVP and First Team All Crestview League. Academically, she is a four time Scholar Athlete, an Honor Roll student and a 2020 Athletic Council representative.  McDaniel’s favorite high school memory was beating Dana Hills High School her freshman year at home. She stated, “I would like to give a special thanks to my family that has helped me throughout the way and get me to the point that I am at today!”

Giovanna Salcido – Softball

Giovanna Salcido is a 4 year varsity softball catcher at Canyon High School. Salcido has received an athletic scholarship to play softball at Dominican College, where she will be studying Nursing. During Salcido’s 4 years on varsity her athletic accolades include: Team MVP and 1st Team All League freshman year; Crestview League MVP, Offensive Player of the Year, Michelle Carew All Tournament Team, leading her team to a Crestview League Championship her Sophomore year; Giovanna was on track to be one of the top performers  in the Century Conference and one of the best softball players in Orange County before her season was interrupted by the coronavirus pandemic. Academically Salcido is a Canyon scholar athlete. Her favorite high school memory is the team trips to Laughlin. She would like to give a special thanks to “My friends and family for always supporting me and my coaches who never gave up on me and pushed me to be my best.”

Madison Sanchez – Softball

Madison Sanchez is a 4 year varsity softball player at Canyon High School. Sanchez will be attending California State University, Fullerton on an athletic and academic scholarship to study Mathematics. While playing for Canyon, Sanchez has been a 4 year letterman, an All League performer in the Crestview league, and helped lead her team to a Crestview league championship. Madison was expected to be an all Century Conference performer and one of the top players in the County before her season was cut short by the coronavirus pandemic.  Academically, Sanchez has been on the Canyon Honor Roll and a Scholar Athlete each year.  Her favorite high school memory was, “receiving my letter for the first time at our annual banquet.” Sanchez would like to thank her parents, Olivia and Luis Sanchez, Coach Jess Carbajal, Mike Perez and Scott Straud.

Sarah Paino – Cross Country and Track & Field

Sarah Paino is a 4 year varsity cross country and track & field runner for Canyon High School. She will be attending University of California, San Diego on an athletic scholarship to study Biological Sciences.  Paino is a 3 year team captain, a 2020 Athletic Council member, a 2017 Comanche Award recipient, a 4 year cross country team league champion and a 4 year CIF State meet qualifier. Academically, Paino has received Scholar Athlete, Top of the Tribe, and Student of the Month all 4 years at Canyon, while also earning College Board AP Scholar the past 3 years.  Her favorite high school memory was racing at the CIF State Cross Country Meet her freshman year. She stated, “It was an amazing experience that allowed me to form lasting friendships and set the stage for my next three years of high school cross country. Finally, she stated, “I’m so thankful for my family and coaches for all their support they’ve given me since day one. I’d also like to thank the UCSD coaching staff for believing in me and providing me with the wonderful opportunity. I’m so excited for what’s to come!”
