The Canyon Athletic Department is excited to recognize six senior Comanches moving on to play at the collegiate level. The April 11th, 2018 signer’s include:
Joshua Anderson – Cross Country/Track & Field – Vanguard University
Zara Anderson – Cross Country/Track & Field – College of Idaho
Brocton Schlaf – Football – Chapman University
Gerrick Jensen – Cross Country/Track & Field – Harvey Mudd College
Astin – Volleyball – To Be Announced
Jacob Ota – Baseball – University of Puget Sound
Joshua Anderson will be competing in Cross Country and Track & Field next year for Vanguard University where he is planning to study business. During Anderson’s high school career he has been named a Scholar Athlete, November 2017 Athlete of Month by ASB, obtained a 3 mile PR of 14:56 and a 3200 meter PR of 9:41. Anderson’s favorite high school memory is beating Brea Olinda for the first time in 10 years in a 1-4 man sweep at League Finals this year. Good luck to you in college experience as a Vanguard!
Zara Anderson is one of a few athletes at Canyon High School to earn the Ironman patch. During her high school career Anderson has competed in three sports for the Comanches including Cross Country, Track & Field and Swim. Next year Anderson is planning to compete in all three and the College of Idaho where she is planning to major in Education. During her high school career she has been named Rookie of the Year 2015 (swim), Most Inspiring 2016 (swim) and 2017 cross country team captain. Anderson’s favorite high school memory is “Getting the chance to be a part of three amazing teams and forming friendship with my teammates.”
Brocton Schlaf will play football at Chapman University next fall. His major is currently undecided. Schlaf earned the Defensive MVP, All League, and scholar athlete awards while playing Comanche football. He also led the team in tackles every game during the entire 2017 football season. Schlaf’s favorite high school memories included playing football and going to eat with his friends after practice.
Astin Sesoko is currently choosing between 14 schools to play collegiate volleyball. His goal is to eventually earn a Master’s degree in Athletic Training. Sesoko has earned both the Scholar Athlete and Top of the Tribe academic awards. Athletically, Sesoko has been apart of the 2015, 2016 and 2017 varsity league championship Canyon volleyball team. Individual accomplishments include: 2017 All Tournament Outside Hitter at Crescentia Valley Tournament; 2017 All League MVP; 2017 2nd place Junior Olympics. His favorite high school memory is when he was pulled up to Varsity freshman year and Coach Andrew Maxey said, “Welcome to the big leagues.” From that moment on Sesoko new he loved the sport.
Jacob Ota is a 2 year varsity baseball player and will be competing at the University of Puget Sound during the 2018-19 school year. He is planning to study Pre-Med. Ota is a scholar athlete and was a part of the 2016-17 League Championship Baseball team. Ota stated, “I want to give thanks to my mom, dad and everyone that has helped me get to where I am today.”
