Boys Varsity Basketball, Girls Varsity Basketball·
February Athlete of the Month
Congratulations to Nicola Furumoto and AJ Perry for earning the February Comanche Athlete of the Month! These two athletes have performed above and beyond expectations, and we would like to recognize their tremendous accomplishments! Here is a rundown of what these two athletes have achieved in February:
Nicola Furumoto: Nicola is a senior at Canyon and a four year starter for the Girls Varsity Basketball Team. In her final season, Nicola averaged 13.8 points per game along with 2.2 assists, 2.8 rebounds, and 1.5 assists. She had over 300 points this season and accumulated over 700 points in her four years of Varsity Basketball. She was also named North Hills League MVP. Nicola started playing when her sister started playing at a young age and with the encouragement of her dad. She loves the competition and the team aspect of the game. She enjoys playing with her teammates and having fun with them. Her favorite memory from Canyon is being undefeated league champs back to back years. Nicola Furumoto has exemplified the characteristics and skills of a great comanche. AJ Perry: AJ Perry is a junior at Canyon and is a third year starter for the Boys Varsity Basketball team. In his junior season, AJ averaged 17.7 points per game, and had over 500 points at the end of the season. He also had an average of 3.3 assists, 3.2 rebounds, and 1.0 steals. And to cap it all, he was named Crestview League MVP. According to OC Register, he has proven himself to be one of the best point guards in Orange County. AJ started playing basketball “since I could walk”. AJ states that the thing he loves most about basketball is “making a big play and hearing the crowd go crazy”. His favorite moment was scoring 39 points in a game during summer. We are grateful to have a determined athlete representing the Comanches for the past three years and we wish AJ the best of luck with his senior season next year. Congratulations to these tremendous athletes!
