Congratulations to Sara Leonard and Justin Allen for earning the September Comanche Athlete of the Month! These two athletes have performed above and beyond expectations, and we would like to recognize their tremendous accomplishments! Here is a rundown of what these two athletes have achieved in September:
Sara Leonard: Sara is a senior at Canyon and has been on Cross Country since her freshmen year. On September 16, She ran 16:05.8 for 3 miles at Woodbridge Invitational, breaking the previous school record by 45 seconds. Her time placed her 5th in the NATION. Sara has been running since middle school and it has become her true passion. She states her favorite thing about Cross Country is “being able to work together with our team and coaches to accomplish the goals we set for ourselves”. Her favorite moment is coming together with her team to support each other after every race. Sara has been pushed to perform her best and we are honored to have such a hard-working and passionate athlete at Canyon.
Justin Allen: Justin is a junior at Canyon and has been a vital part of the Canyon Water Polo team. As a 2 year varsity player, he plays as a goalie and had 134 goalie saves in the month of September. Justin started playing Water Polo when he was in fifth grade, with the encouragement of his brother. He states his favorite thing about Water Polo is “the intensity and drive Water Polo gives not only yourself but also your team and everyone around you”. His favorite moment is winning the first playoff game at home pulling away a win 11-10 in double overtime. Justin has been a core part of the Water Polo team and we are lucky to have such a humble and dedicated athlete at Canyon.
Congratulations to these tremendous athletes!
