Canyon wrestling has a motto for the post season: “One More Monday.” This comes from the fact you need to qualify at league, CIF, and Masters to get to the CIF State Tournament in Bakersfield, California. Each time you qualify, you get one more week of practice…hence the “One More Monday” motto. Well, you can add state qualifier to the list of accomplishments Jared Fernandez has accomplished so far this season. Jared had to push past three of the other five CIF champions to earn his ticket for the state meet. He lost a close match in the consolation bracket to drop to the 9th/10th place match…one he was in two years ago. Any loss and his season and high school career was over. He scored a pin and then a 7-0 decision against the Bloomington HS CIF champ to earn the right to represent Canyon this upcoming weekend. It’s been a long four years of training, but Jared has achieved a major goal: state qualifier.
