During her high school career at Santiago in Corona, Celena was a four-year varsity swimmer and water polo player, leading her team to three CIF championship games in Division 3. She earned 3 time All-American accolades for NISCA as well as KAI organizations from 2008-2010.  During high school she was honored MVP of Mountain View and Big 8 leagues as well as first and second team all CIF. During the closing of her high school career she was inducted to the hall of fame.
Celena also played and traveled with her Olympic development team, earning a fourth place finish in the National Tournament in Davis.
In college she became a four-time member of the California State University Northridge Division 1 Women’s Water Polo team. Throughout her career she tallied 70 goals, received “red-cape” award as well as Coaches award. Finding her most successful year in 2014, as a co-captain she led her team to a Big West Championship and a national ranking of 7th.

She graduated in May 2015 from Cal State University Northridge with a bachelor’s degree in Biology, hoping to impact youth awareness of marine environments. This is her first year as head coach of the Comanche boys water polo team and hopes to  achieve success along with these young men in the water and in the classroom.
