Athlete With Character

On February 27, 2017, at the Orange County Athletic Directors Association (OCADA) awards dinner, Canyon High School athletes, Connor Dunn, Senior Football Player, and Taryn Young, Senior Softball Player, were presented the OCADA Athlete with Character Award.  The OCADA Athlete with Character Award is based on the six pillars of character: Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring, and Citizenship.

Head Football Coach, Mike Ogas, had this to say about Connor:

“Connor Dunn has served our program well over the past 3 years representing not only his team but his family and school with class. Connor has earned a weighed GPA of 4.4 and excels in the classroom and on the field. During his senior season, Connor was one of our best wide receivers, kick returner and punt returner. He held the highest return average in the Crestview league. He finished the season a 1st Team All Century League selection. During his junior season, he returned a kick off 95 yards to open the second half of our 2015 CIF Championship game versus Brea Olinda which sparked our team to its first ever CIF title. Connor has not yet committed but is most-likely headed to USC, following his family before him.”

Head Softball Coach, Jess Carbajal, had these kind words to say about Taryn:

“Taryn exemplifies the six pillars of character and is one of the most selfless leader’s I have ever had the pleasure of coaching. This will be Taryn’s second year as a Varsity Team Captain and has always put her fellow teammates and coaches first. Her leadership and character goes far beyond the field of play and can be seen in her daily life. She is always looking to lead and live by example. She has been a fantastic mentor to the incoming freshman, always making sure they feel welcome. During practices, she is willing to lend a kind word of advice to her teammates to help motivate them or help them understand what they need to do. She is always first to practice and last to leave and is the hardest work person on the field.” Taryn will be attending University of Arizona in the fall on a softball scholarship.character

Congratulations to both Connor Dunn and Taryn Young for receiving this award and thank you for modeling outstanding character at Canyon High School!
